🎄 Christmas in Mexico Christ-Centered Unit Study

Bring meaning, connection, and wonder to your Christmas season with a Christ-centered study of Christmas traditions in Mexico.

This 18-page printable study blends faith, culture, living books, music, a traditional recipe, a hands-on craft, Scripture, and gentle reflection to help families learn together while keeping Christ at the heart of the season.

✨ Inside the Study

This Mexico study includes:

🌍 Mexico Introduction & Book Suggestions – Explore Mexico, gather recommended books, and prepare for the week with an ingredient list and craft supply list. Recommended titles include The Legend of the Poinsettia, Too Many Tamales, The Night of Las Posadas, The Piñata Maker / El Piñatero, and The Christmas Gift / El Regalo de Navidad.

✨ Christmas Traditions – Learn about Mexican Christmas traditions including Las Posadas, music, poinsettias, and piñatas, with gentle connections back to Christ, hospitality, joy, and the meaning of the season.

🎵 Las Posadas + Story – Discover the meaning behind this nine-night Christmas tradition and its call-and-response song as families remember Mary and Joseph’s search for lodging. The lesson encourages children to think about making room for Jesus and showing hospitality and kindness to others.

📖 Book Connection – The Legend of the Poinsettia – Read The Legend of the Poinsettia by Tomie dePaola and use simple discussion questions to explore giving from the heart, humility, love, and faith.

☕ Mexican Hot Chocolate – Make a warm Mexican-inspired hot chocolate together using milk, Mexican chocolate, cinnamon, and optional toppings.

🎨 Felt Poinsettia Ornament – Create a beautiful felt poinsettia ornament using red and green felt, gold beads, and ribbon or twine. The craft connects back to the poinsettia legend and the idea that even a simple gift given with love can be beautiful.

💬 Scripture & Devotional – Reflect on Luke 2:10–11 and use the Mexico devotional card, Joy & Celebration, to connect Las Posadas and Mexican Christmas traditions with the good news of Christ’s birth, joy, welcome, and making room for Jesus.
